Powering Fraser Valley Industry

Light industrial and manufacturing facilities depend on reliable, code-compliant electrical systems to keep production lines moving, equipment running, and workers safe. At CN Electrical, we bring years of hands-on industrial experience to every project — from small fabrication shops to mid-sized manufacturing plants across Chilliwack, Abbotsford, and the Fraser Valley. Many older industrial buildings in the area have aging electrical infrastructure — read our guide on electrical safety in older buildings to understand the risks and warning signs.

We understand the unique demands of industrial environments: high amperage loads, three-phase power distribution, motor control circuits, and the need for minimal downtime during installation or upgrades. Our Red Seal electricians plan every job carefully, working around your production schedule to keep disruption to a minimum.

Whether you're setting up a new facility, expanding an existing one, or need ongoing electrical maintenance for your operation, CN Electrical delivers clean, professional work backed by full permitting and Technical Safety BC compliance.

The Challenge

A growing custom cabinetry manufacturer in Chilliwack was expanding from a 2,500 sq. ft. leased space into a newly constructed 8,000 sq. ft. purpose-built shop. The facility needed a complete electrical infrastructure capable of supporting CNC routers, edge banders, wide-belt sanders, dust collection systems, and a spray booth — all running simultaneously on three-phase 600V service.

The owner's primary concern was minimizing downtime during the transition. Production had to continue in the old space while the new facility was being wired, and the cutover needed to happen over a single weekend to avoid missing customer deadlines.

Our Approach

  • Designed a 600A, 347/600V three-phase service entrance with coordinated BC Hydro disconnect, main switchboard, and sub-panel distribution tailored to equipment loads and future expansion.
  • Installed dedicated circuits with properly sized conductors, overload protection, and lockable disconnect switches for 18 pieces of production equipment — each labeled and documented in a master panel schedule.
  • Wired a centralized dust collection system with motor control circuits, VFD-controlled fan, and safety interlocks tied to each machine's disconnect.
  • Completed high-bay LED lighting with task-specific illumination levels calibrated for assembly, sanding, and finishing areas — designed to Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) recommended foot-candle standards.
  • Managed the full Technical Safety BC permit process, including load calculations, single-line diagrams, and scheduled inspections — achieving first-pass approval without deficiencies.

The Result

The entire electrical installation was completed on schedule, and the production cutover was executed over a single weekend as planned. The cabinet shop resumed full operations Monday morning with zero lost production days. The owner reported a 30% increase in throughput within the first quarter, enabled in part by the reliable, well-organized electrical infrastructure.

Two years later, CN Electrical continues to provide preventative maintenance for the facility, including annual thermal imaging inspections and connection torque checks on all distribution equipment.

"Chris and his crew understood exactly what a cabinet shop needs from an electrical standpoint. They worked around our production schedule, kept the site clean, and every panel was labeled perfectly. We passed our TSBC inspection on the first visit — the inspector even commented on the quality of the work."
