Agricultural electrical work isn't like residential or commercial — it involves high-horsepower motor loads, long feeder runs to outbuildings, corrosive barn environments, and the ever-present risk of fire from combustible dust. At CN Electrical, we bring specialized experience in farm electrical systems that meet the Canadian Electrical Code's agricultural requirements and WorkSafeBC regulations.
We understand the rhythm of farm life. Our electricians work around milking schedules, harvest windows, and calving seasons. Whether you need a new grain dryer hookup before harvest or emergency service when a barn panel fails at 6:00 am, CN Electrical is ready to respond with the equipment, expertise, and parts to get you back online. For farms that can't afford downtime during power outages, a properly sized backup generator is essential — see our generator buying guide for Fraser Valley farms.
From small hobby farms to large commercial dairy and poultry operations, CN Electrical provides the dependable electrical infrastructure that keeps Fraser Valley farms productive, safe, and energy-efficient.

Agricultural Electrical Services
Comprehensive electrical solutions for farms and agricultural operations throughout the Fraser Valley — from dairy to grain, poultry to greenhouse.
Barn & Livestock Facility Wiring
Complete electrical rough-in and finish for dairy barns, poultry barns, equestrian facilities, and livestock housing — including ventilation fan circuits, automated feeding systems, manure handling equipment, and waterer heater circuits. All work meets CEC Section 22 requirements for agricultural buildings with proper bonding, grounding, and corrosion-resistant materials.
Grain Dryer & Auger Hookups
Three-phase motor connections for grain dryers, augers, conveyors, and bucket elevators — with properly sized motor starters, phase loss protection, and emergency shutoffs. We handle everything from 600V service drops to control wiring for automated grain handling systems that get your crop into the bin before the weather turns.
Irrigation Pump Controls
Power distribution and controls for irrigation pumps, pivot systems, and traveling gun irrigators — including VFD pump controllers, pressure transducer integration, remote start/stop stations, and weather-based control system wiring. Designed for wet, outdoor conditions with proper weatherproof enclosures and GFCI protection.
Farm Service & Distribution Upgrades
Farm operations grow, and so do their power needs. We design and install 200A to 600A farm service upgrades with properly coordinated distribution to outbuildings, sub-feed panels in barns and shops, and capacity for future expansion — dairy parlour additions, cold storage, or new grain handling equipment.
Equipment & Motor Connections
Motor connections for fans, feed augers, conveyors, compressors, vacuum pumps, and milking equipment — with properly sized disconnects, overload protection, and emergency stop stations per WorkSafeBC and CEC requirements for agricultural machinery.
Emergency Farm Electrical Repair
When a barn panel fails during calving season or a grain dryer quits during harvest, you can't wait. CN Electrical provides responsive emergency electrical service for farms throughout Chilliwack and the Fraser Valley — with the parts, equipment, and agricultural electrical expertise to diagnose and repair the problem fast.
The Electrical Partner Your Farm Can Count On
Farm electrical work has consequences that go beyond inconvenience — a failed barn panel during winter means frozen waterers and at-risk livestock. An improperly grounded dairy system can create stray voltage that affects milk production. An undersized grain dryer circuit can mean a crop that doesn't make grade. CN Electrical understands what's at stake, and we design every farm installation to be safe, reliable, and built for the long haul.

Dairy Farm — Complete Electrical Modernization
How CN Electrical upgraded a 120-head dairy operation's electrical infrastructure to support automated milking, improved herd safety, and reduced energy costs.

The Challenge
A 120-head dairy operation near Greendale was running on a 200A farm service that had been patched and expanded over four decades. The original barn wiring — much of it from the 1980s — included aluminum branch circuits in the tie-stall barn, an undersized service entrance that couldn't support the planned robotic milking system upgrade, and ventilation fans that were sharing overloaded circuits and tripping breakers during hot summer weeks.
The owner needed a complete electrical modernization — new barn wiring, a service upgrade to support automated milking equipment, proper bonding and grounding for livestock safety, and a ventilation control system that would maintain barn air quality year-round. All work had to be completed without disrupting the twice-daily milking schedule that the farm's milk contract depended on.
Our Approach
- Designed and installed a new 400A, 120/240V single-phase farm service with a properly sized main disconnect, surge protection, and copper feeders to all outbuildings — including 25% spare capacity for future equipment like a second bulk tank cooler and an automated feeding system.
- Completed a full barn rewire — copper branch circuits throughout the tie-stall barn, milking parlour, and milk room — with corrosion-resistant conduit and fittings, properly bonded equipment grounding conductors for livestock safety, and dedicated circuits for vacuum pumps, bulk tank compressor, and water heaters.
- Installed a new ventilation control system with VFD-driven barn fans, temperature and humidity sensors, automated curtain controls, and high-temperature alarm integration — ensuring consistent air quality and reducing electrical consumption by matching fan speed to actual ventilation demand.
- Wired the new automated milking system — including dedicated circuits for the robotic milking units, milk pump, wash system, and data management computer — with proper GFCI protection in wet locations and emergency stop stations per WorkSafeBC agricultural requirements.
- Coordinated all work around the farm's milking schedule — staging construction in phases, maintaining temporary power to the existing parlour equipment during cutover, and completing the final connections during the farm's scheduled dry period to minimize disruption.
The Result
The complete electrical modernization was completed over six weeks — on schedule and within budget — with zero milking interruptions throughout the project. Every Technical Safety BC inspection passed on the first visit. The VFD ventilation system reduced the barn's electrical consumption for air handling by approximately 35%, and the owner's insurance provider recognized the new copper wiring and proper bonding system with an updated risk assessment.
The dairy now operates with modern, code-compliant electrical infrastructure that supports the robotic milking system, improved cow comfort through consistent ventilation, and reduced fire risk through the elimination of aging aluminum wiring. CN Electrical continues to provide annual electrical inspections and thermal imaging for the farm — including pre-harvest and pre-winter readiness checks.
"When you're milking 120 cows twice a day, you can't afford electrical problems. Chris and his crew understood that from day one. They worked around our schedule, never interrupted a milking, and the new barn wiring and ventilation controls have made a real difference in herd comfort and our power bill. It's reassuring to know we have an electrician who actually understands dairy operations."
