Promontory Home — Whole-Home LED Lighting Transformation
How CN Electrical replaced 40+ builder-grade fixtures throughout a two-storey Promontory home with a layered LED lighting design — including pot lights, pendant fixtures, under-cabinet task lighting, and a zoned smart dimming system.
The Challenge
The homeowners had just purchased a newer two-storey home in Promontory and wanted to upgrade every light fixture before moving in. The builder had installed 40+ standard boob lights and basic flush-mount fixtures — uniform but uninspired. The homeowners wanted a complete lighting transformation: pot lights throughout the main floor, statement pendants over the kitchen island and dining table, under-cabinet task lighting, and a layered dimming system that could set different moods for cooking, dining, and entertaining.
The project had a tight timeline — the homeowners wanted the lighting done before the moving truck arrived in three weeks. It also required cutting into finished ceilings throughout the main floor, which meant dust control and ceiling repair were critical concerns. And with 40+ new LED fixtures across multiple circuits, dimmer compatibility and proper circuit loading had to be planned carefully to avoid flicker and nuisance tripping.
Our Approach
- Walked the entire home with the homeowners before quoting — discussing where they wanted ambient, task, and accent lighting in each room, confirming fixture positions with laser marks on the ceiling, and selecting dimmer locations for each zone.
- Installed 28 ultra-thin LED wafer pot lights across the kitchen, living room, dining room, and hallway — mapped out symmetrical grid layouts, cut clean holes with a HEPA vacuum attachment, and installed airtight IC-rated housings in every insulated ceiling bay.
- Mounted three statement pendant fixtures — a 48-inch linear chandelier over the dining table on a fan-rated brace, and two glass pendants over the kitchen island with independent dimmer control — each fixture perfectly level and rated for the weight.
- Hardwired under-cabinet LED strip lighting in the kitchen with a hidden driver and a dedicated dimmer — no cords, no transformers visible, and crisp 3000K light that makes the quartz countertops glow.
- Configured four independent dimming zones (kitchen, living/dining, hallway, outdoor) with compatible LED dimmers that deliver smooth dimming from 100% down to 1% with zero flicker — tested every fixture-dimmer pair before final trim installation.
- Sealed every pot light trim ring, patched the original fixture boxes, and left the ceilings looking like the pot lights were always there — the homeowners walked into a fully transformed space the day before moving day.
The Result
The homeowners walked into their new home the day before moving day and the first thing they said was "it doesn't even feel like the same house." Every room had layered, dimmable lighting — bright and functional for daily tasks, warm and ambient for evenings. The kitchen island pendants became the focal point the homeowners had envisioned, and the under-cabinet lighting made the countertops usable without shadows.
A year later, the homeowners had CN Electrical back to add landscape lighting to the backyard and pot lights to the basement. They've since referred us to three of their neighbours on the same street.
