Electrical Systems That Keep Flowers Blooming

Flower facilities — whether greenhouse operations, indoor vertical farms, or hybrid nursery setups — rely on tightly controlled environments. Temperature, humidity, light cycles, CO₂ levels, and irrigation timing must all be managed with precision. At CN Electrical, we specialize in designing and installing the electrical infrastructure that powers and automates these critical systems.

We understand the demands of the floriculture industry in the Fraser Valley. Our Red Seal electricians have experience with environmental control computers, VFD-driven fan and vent motor circuits, multi-zone irrigation controllers, and high-intensity supplemental lighting — all installed to Canadian Electrical Code standards for agricultural and greenhouse occupancies. Switching from HID to LED grow lights can dramatically reduce your facility's energy consumption — learn more in our LED lighting upgrade savings guide.

From new greenhouse construction to retrofitting existing facilities with modern automation, CN Electrical provides electrical solutions that help you increase yield, reduce energy costs, and protect your crop from environmental control failures.

What We Offer

Flower Facility Electrical Services

Comprehensive electrical solutions for greenhouse and flower growing facilities throughout the Fraser Valley.

Climate Control System Wiring

Dedicated circuits and control wiring for environmental computers, VFD-driven exhaust fans, ridge vents, circulation fans, heating system controls, and motorized shade curtain systems. We install fail-safe control circuits with manual overrides and alarm integration for temperature excursions.

Supplemental Grow Light Systems

High-intensity discharge (HID) and LED supplemental lighting circuits with proper load balancing, contactor-controlled zones, and programmable scheduling integration. Designed for the high inrush currents of HID ballasts with proper circuit derating per CEC requirements for continuous loads.

Irrigation Pump & Zone Controls

Power distribution for irrigation pumps, fertigation injectors, and multi-zone solenoid valve controllers. Includes moisture sensor integration, flow meter wiring, and automated dosing system hookups — all with GFCI protection suitable for wet greenhouse environments.

Environmental Monitoring & Alarms

Wiring for temperature, humidity, CO₂, and light sensors distributed throughout growing zones. Integration with alarm dialers that notify you by phone when conditions fall outside set parameters. Backup battery systems ensure monitoring continues during power outages.

Main Service & Distribution Upgrades

Greenhouse expansions often outgrow their original electrical service. We design and install service upgrades — 400A, 600A, and larger — with properly sized distribution panels, sub-feed circuits to remote greenhouse zones, and future-expansion capacity built into load calculations.

Preventative Maintenance Programs

Scheduled electrical inspections and maintenance tailored to greenhouse operations — thermal imaging of panels and motor connections, contactor and relay testing, control circuit verification, GFCI testing, and documented compliance records for your insurance and operational requirements.

Why CN Electrical

The Electrical Partner Your Flowers Depend On

Greenhouse electrical work is unique — it combines the demands of an industrial facility with the biological sensitivity of a living crop. A poorly designed circuit, an undersized motor starter, or a control panel without proper surge protection can cascade into environmental control failure, and within hours, thousands of plants can be lost. CN Electrical understands what's at stake.

  • Red Seal journeyman electricians — experienced with greenhouse and agricultural electrical requirements
  • Full Technical Safety BC permit and inspection management for every project
  • Experience with environmental control systems, VFD motor circuits, and automation integration
  • Flexible scheduling — we work around your growing cycles and peak-season demands
  • Understanding of Canadian Electrical Code requirements for agricultural and greenhouse occupancies
  • Redundant and fail-safe circuit design to protect your crop from control failures
  • $5M commercial liability insurance coverage
  • Serving flower growers and greenhouse operations from Chilliwack to Abbotsford and throughout the Fraser Valley

Commercial Flower Greenhouse — Full Electrical & Controls Upgrade

How CN Electrical modernized a 2-acre flower-growing facility with automated climate control and energy-efficient lighting to improve yield and reduce operating costs.

The Challenge

A 2-acre commercial flower growing operation near Yarrow had relied on manual greenhouse controls and an aging 200A electrical service for over 15 years. Motorized vent actuators were failing mid-season, the HID supplemental lighting system tripped breakers during cold-weather starts, and the facility had no environmental monitoring or alarm capabilities — meaning a heater failure overnight could go unnoticed until morning inspection.

The owner wanted a complete modernization: automated climate control across four growing zones, energy-efficient LED supplemental lighting to replace aging HID fixtures, centralized irrigation control with moisture sensor feedback, and a monitoring system that would alert them immediately if conditions fell outside set parameters. The entire upgrade had to be completed between November and January — the narrow window between fall harvest and Valentine's Day production ramp-up.

Our Approach

  • Designed a 600A, 120/240V single-phase service upgrade with a new main distribution panel, surge-protected sub-panels in each growing zone, and 25% spare capacity built into load calculations for future expansion — ensuring the electrical infrastructure would support the facility's growth for years to come.
  • Installed complete climate control wiring across four growing zones — dedicated circuits for VFD-controlled exhaust fans, ridge vents, horizontal airflow fans, and hydronic heating pumps — all integrated with an environmental control computer that provides zone-specific temperature, humidity, and CO₂ management.
  • Replaced the entire supplemental lighting system with programmable LED grow light circuits — 28 zones with solid-state relay control via the environmental computer, enabling sunrise/sunset simulation, photoperiod control, and automatic dimming based on ambient light sensor readings.
  • Wired a multi-zone irrigation control system with solenoid valve circuits, fertigation injector power, moisture sensor integration, and flow meter monitoring — all managed through a centralized controller with manual override stations in each zone.
  • Installed environmental monitoring sensors throughout all zones — temperature, humidity, CO₂, and light level — connected to a cloud-based alarm system that sends text and phone alerts if any parameter falls outside the owner-defined operating range. Included battery backup for monitoring during power interruptions.

The Result

The project was completed on January 21st — nine days ahead of the Valentine's Day deadline — giving the grower time to fine-tune climate settings before peak production. Every Technical Safety BC inspection passed on the first visit. The LED lighting retrofit reduced the facility's electrical consumption for supplemental lighting by approximately 40%, and the automated climate control eliminated the manual vent and heater adjustments that previously required staff to be on-site at sunrise and sunset.

The rose facility now operates with fully automated environmental control across all four zones. The cloud-based alarm system has already proven its value — alerting the owner to a circulation fan failure at 2:00 am, allowing a manual override before zone temperatures rose above the crop threshold. CN Electrical continues to provide annual electrical inspections and control system verification for the facility.

"Our operation depends on precise environmental control, and CN Electrical delivered exactly that. Chris understood the urgency of finishing before our peak growing season, and his team worked efficiently through some cold winter weeks. The automation has transformed how we manage the greenhouse — our staff can monitor conditions from their phones, and the alarm system gives us peace of mind we never had before. We've already seen improvements in bloom consistency since the upgrade."
